The new BL12AA-12 Microbubble Generator developed by Nitta Moore makes possible the ability to introduce very small bubbles into almost any liquid. Microbubbles are generated by pumping a liquid through the device and adjusting the gas intake needle valve. Microbubbles of about 5 microns to 50 microns in diameter are possible (1 micron = .001 mm or .000039 in). The tiny Microbubbles are 20 times smaller in diameter than a human hair (average human hair is 100 microns).
Unlike "normal" bubbles which rapidly rise to the surface and pop, Microbubbles are so small they remain suspended in the water, become increasingly smaller, and eventually collapse below the surface due to the pressure water exerts on them. The Microbubbles are negatively charged so they attract positively charged objects under water, including contaminants, micro-organisms, and viruses. Any positively charged live objects, such as micro-organisms and viruses, that become attached to the negatively charged microbubbles are either destroyed or crippled (due to the intense reaction caused by the collaspe of the microbubble underwater). Contaminants attracted to the Microbubbles can be easily filtered because it is suspended with the bubble or it may be chemically changed in some way . Also the Microbubbles have great cleaning power, their small size and negative charge make it easy for them to travel into small pores and attract positive charged dirt, micro-organisms, and viruses, lifting the contaminant out. Microbubbles also improve the efficiency of gas tranfer to water because they do not rise to the surface and pop but collapse under the surface allowing the gas contained inside to be absorbed into the water quickly.
